Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and Stratton 12.5hp, briggs and stratton, changing oil

I have a Briggs and Stratton 12.5hp Model No 288707 0116-01 engine on my Murray Lawn mower. When l put into gear and let up the clutch it is very noisy-even when cold. There only seems an oil fill to the engine-does that feed the gearbox is there another drain/fill for the box. Is it normal for them to be quite noisy changing oil hasnt helped. Can the gearbox be overhauled as far as you know. Many Thanks

I need some more information...The best thing to do is to disconnect the belts from the bottom of the engine pulley and then start the engine up.  I suspect you wont have the "noise" you are talking about.   I would be looking more towards the variator asssy which is the variable pulley or the transaxle itself.
