QuestionI have a Briggs & Stratton 17HP riding mower engine I had to take apart and now am having problems with lining up the crack shaft with valves. Engine was seized, I got that fixed but now it won't turn a complete turn because valve crank shaft and piston crank shaft are not lined up and hit each other. Sorry I'm not sure how to ask the question. Hope it's clear enough.
AnswerHello Andy:
>>From your Description it Sounds like the Connecting Rod/s were Attached to the Crankshaft Wrong.
>>Usually when this Problem Occurs, the Connecting Rod/s have been Connected to the Crankshaft in the Wrong Direction.
>>The Rod Cap/s are on the Cam Side of the Engine so the Rod/s Throw is Away from the Cam itself.
>>There is a Mark (-) on the Crankshaft Gear Tooth and a Dot(.) between the Teeth on the Cam that have to be Matched for the Valve Timing to be Correct. Usually the Larger Dot is the Timing Mark.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
Good Luck
