QuestionI just bought an RX73 JD mower with a 9 hp Kawasaki engine. It was serviced a year ago then not ran since. It will run for a few seconds if I put gas down the air intake. I checked the fuel line going to the carburator and it is ok. I think maybe the carburator is gummed up but don't know how to service it.
AnswerDoes you engine have a fuel shut-off valve in the fuel line on or the gas tank?
Is you engine model number FC290V? If so, here is a useful link:

Do you have an air compressor to blow air through the carb to clean the orfice? Do you have a digital camera to take pictures as you dis-assemble the engine? Pictures can really help when you start to re-assemble.
There are several carburetor cleaning videos on You Tube. The procedure is the same for most mower carbs; remove carb, dis-assemble, blow compressed air through all the orfices, re-assemble.
Let me know if the link helps.
