Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere sx95, forward gears, rear axle

Question
I have no reverse all forward gears are ok, at times it tries to go into reverse can feel it just barely moving is there an adjustment or is reverse gear going out?

Take a look at this link and use the manual to identify your transmission:

Since you said all the forward gears are working then I am assuming the main chain on the mower rear axle is properly working.

If you have 700 series gear box there is a chain on the inside that is prone to breaking.  It is an easy repair but does take about a half day or so for experienced mechanics.  It would probably take a weekend with basic hand tools.

Let me know what gear box series you have.
