Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Boy 5247, wood dowel, exhaust ports

I have a 5247 that start-up  but doen don rev up when mowing if I cut the gas out it will rev up for 4-5 seconds before it dies out. Should this mower rev up under a load?How does the air vane work?

You may have two problems with your lawnboy.  One may be a gov spring, but more often then not its because your muffler or muffler ports are plugged.   Part of a normal 2 cycle tune up is to clean the exhaust ports.  Remove the muffler and look at the holes into the cylinder...Are they carboned up?  if so take a wood dowel and clean them out...

this should resolve your problem...

If not..Its time for a service manual....
