Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens Model YT1138/ 935009, broken shaft, new shaft

I have the above subjectv machine and the left axle have broken so the wheel comes off when I jack it up. I just put in a short bloc and it was running great. What are your recommendation on fixing it?

I would try disassembling the transmission enough to remove the broken shaft and taking it to a machine shop and trying to weld it and then turn it down.
But first find out how much a new shaft is, sometimes it might surprise you at the cost.
