QuestionHi John, I have a John Deere 314 with a Kohler K321AQS engine spec no. 60343 . It starts right up and runs fine for about 5 minutes. Then it backfires and dies. Usually it starts right back up and runs another 5 minutes and then dies again. I've changed coils, plug wire and checked the points. I still get the same results. I really appreciate any thoughts you have. Thank you.
AnswerHello Allen:
>>Always Remove the Spark Plug Wire/s from the Spark Plug/s before Working on Any Small Engine unless the Plug/s must be Connected to the Coil/s for Diagnostic Reasons.
>>Did you Change the Capacitor when you Changed the Coil?
>>Is the Unit Moving when this Happens or Does it Matter if the Unit is Moving or Not?
>>When was the Carburetor Serviced Last? If the Float Needle Valve is Sticking, then you will have this Problem.
>>Is the Gas Free Flowing (for at Least 1 minute) to the Carburetor?
>>How Old are the Points?
>>Thanks

Hello Again Allen:
>>I Just saw your Comments and Rantings and Wanted to Respond and Say Thank You.
>>The Reason i Mentioned the Carburetor is I have an ATV Pull Behind Mower that was Doing the Same thing and it Ended Up being the Carburetor Needle Valves was Hanging on a Very Small Burr inside the Needle Valve Port where it Rides. What I thought that was Unuasal was this Question came Up so Soon After having it Happen to me.
>>I Do Not know Why I Didn't finishing including this in the Email when I Mentioned Servicing the Carburetor and I Want to Apologize for Not Seeing the Mistake when I Previewed my Response.
>>Thanks for Using All Experts.
>>Till Next Time. May All Your Mechanical Problems be SMALL ONES and as Always, May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy.
Best Wishes and Good Luck
