QuestionI have a Craftsman 19.5 HP Briggs &Stratton IC. I bought it used and have owned it for the past three years. Upon starting it this spring, I now have oil pumping up through a line leading into the air filter housing. Any ideas on what could be causing this & what remedies I might pursue?
AnswerThis is the cranckcase breather tube.
It allows the engine to recirculate the crankcase gases to allow cleaner emmissions.
I would say that your crankcase's version of a pcv valve needs replaced.
Cheap fix.
If you follow the tube going to the air filter back to its source you should find a small metal housing that it connects to.
This is the valve.
Unbolt it and replace. It should cost about $10-$15.
If this does not work then your getting too much blow-by past the rings and will need a rebuild.
Let me know what you find out.
If you would please rate my answer, Thanks
