Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan chain saw with no compression, ethanol gas, piston head
Question
piston head
I have a Poulan 3314 chain saw that started to loose power then would not start the next time I tried to use it. i thought that perhaps because i used a gas with 10% ethanol it damaged the fuel system. Took it to a local repair shop and was told that there was no compression. It was cheaper to buy a new one. Since I borrowed this chain saw from my neighbor I bought him a new one (embarrassing). I want to try to repair this one. I dis-assembled the motor and checked the piston ring, thinking it had seized up. The ring looks fine to me, moving freely. Did not see any obvious hole in the cylinder or piston head. Not sure what to look for next. Is it possible the ethanol gas caused the engine to run hot and there is a pin hole in the piston? the picture of piston head is attached. can send other pictures if needed.
Thanks for any advice.
Answeryes please send close up pictures of piston ex side and intake side and close up of inside of cyl bore and close up of crankshaft / crankcase
but does sound like the ethanol, and running hot caused pre mature wear
send pictues will advise from those if repair possible
need to see if any deep scoring/ blueing, gaulling in cylinder ?
any if can supply what oil / premix was being used and what type of oil
cheers paul
