Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Fule Solenoid for a Scotts 17hp. Lawn tractor, key switch, solenoid

Is there any way I can check to see if the fuel solenoid is working the way it should be working.

Fuel Solenoid?  I believe you are talking about the electric FUEL SHUTOFF solenoid located on the bottom of the carb correct?

If this is the case, there are a couple of ways that i check them.

One, I simply turn the key switch on and wait for a click, this tells me the plunger is deactivating the way it should.  IF i have a problem with backfiring and wonder if the solenoid is working, simply pull the wire off of it and see if the engine stops in a few seconds.

The solenoid is designed to prevent backfiring after the engine is turned off.
