Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Kohler Command, jet nozzle, jump wires
QuestionI have a Craftsman riding lawnmower (model # 917.258590) with a Kohler engine (model # CV16S type # PS-43509). The engine turns over but will not start. The spark is good and the fuel pump is pumping fuel to the carburetor. I have taken apart the carburetor and cleaned it. Still not starting. What do I need to check now?
AnswerHI CARL
TRY REMOVING AIR FILTER AND PRIMING CYLINDER THROUGH AIR INTAKE INTO CARB IF UNIT RUNS ON WHAT YOU PRIMBED IT ON THEN FUEL IS NOT GETTING FROM FLOAT BOWL TO MAIN JET/ NOZZLE AND INTO VENTURI AND INTO INTAKE MANIFOLD
HAVE YOU CHECKED THE FUEL SOLENOID IS GETTING 12 VOLTS THIS OPENS THE FLOW TO MAIN JET WHEN IT GETS 12 VOLTS IF NOT YOU HAVE A BAD WIRE FROM SWITCH TO CARB SOLENOID - CHECK AND REPAIR
AS A TEST ONLY TRY USING A SMALL 12 VOLT BATTERY WITH SMALL JUMP WIRES ON IT AND COUPLE THEM IN ON THE SOLENOID CONNECTOR @ CARBY AND SEE IF STARTS UP IF IT DOES ABOVE IS CONFIRMED
ARE VALVES OPENING AND CLOSING ?
DOES UNIT HAVE GOOD COMPRESSION ?
GIVE IT A TRY
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND
