Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GX270 9hp, honda gx270, go kart
Questionhey Paul, I'm making a go kart with this 9 hp and i have special deal for the clutch(comet40), but this clutch has been modified with lighter tension roller springs, to engage at 1200rpm. when i read the manual the engine idle speed is 1400rpm. Now can i run the engine at a lower rpm, like 1000rpm and it will still operate right? and how would i do that? or should i just get the clutch new which engage at 1600rpm?
Answerhi mike
yes i would go for a new clutch that engages @ 1600 rpm versus re-modifying a modified clutch already , the engine will accelerate away better with a higher idle speed ie 1400 rpm idle speed as oem spec then 1600 clutch engagement , max rev might only be between 3400 and 3500 rpm max which is plenty be sure that clutch can handle power and torque
cheers hope this helps paul
