Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton wont stay running, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

I have a powerwasher with 6hp Briggs & Stratton engine that has been sitting for over a year. When I try to start it, it runs for about 5 seconds and dies. Any suggestions?

sound like the engine might not be getting any fuel ?

check fuel is it fresh ?,  drain and clean tank  

is flow of fuel from tank to carb good?  check remove f/line from carb  end

is the float bowl full of fuel ?- remove main jet  from bowl

is main jet blocked with green  gum  from stale / evapoated fuel ?

is the needle valve stuck / sticking  from green gum ?

might pay to remove carb  and  give complete cleaning to remove any  green gum residue
that may be restricting /blocking jets & openings etc   

fit new plug,  and change oil  

all going well  and everything being = good compression , spark and at right time , fuel supply
all working  should run
