Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): troy built carburator leaks gas profusly, briggs and stratton, float bowl

my troy built 15hp Briggs and Stratton carburator would not start the other day.  gas was coming out of the bottom of the carb, a lot.  what is causing this

Hi Graham,

I have found a similar problem with excess gas on my Toro lawnmowers.

Sometimes this is caused by a worn gasket on the float bowl of the carb.

If changing the gasket doesn't fix the problem, then I would suggest putting a shut-off

valve on the gas line leading to the carb.  At least it would not be leaking gas

while the machine is idle.
