ANSWER: What is the engine model and spec number? Does the engine have an old style external generator or does it have a current style alternator located under the flywheel? Does the charging system have a rectifier?
Let me know the engine numbers so I can look up your charging system.

AnswerParts lists shows a regulator for the 15A stator/alternator. The regulator looks like an aluminum rectagle with fins protuding from the part. Do you see a regulator on your engine?
Do you have a volt meter?
Have you charged the battery and had it load tested at your local autoparts store? Have you dis-connected the battery cables and cleaned the battery terminal posts and cable ends with a wirebrush?
