QuestionI have a 2004 DYT4000 riding mower. I purchased a new battery, when I went to reconnect the battery cables, I didn't notice the cable cords were opposite than the old battery until I tried to start it. I fixed that and the mower started, but when I went to pull the PTO to engage the blades, the blades didn't engage. I had a blown fuse and replace it the 20amp with a 25amp. Now the mower starts, but PTO still wont engage the blades, but the mower starts fine. When I put a 20amp fuse in it keeps blowing. Can you think of where I can start looking to solve this problem.
AnswerTo take the pto clutch out of the loop, I would unplug it at the connecter below the engine,
an put in a 20 amp fuse and start the mower and engage the switch and see if it still blows,
if it does, then you have a wiring or switch problem, if not, look at the clutch itself,
and hook two jumper wires to it directly from the battery and see if it engages, you will hear it clunk, if not, and the wires get hot, then the clutch likely is bad.
Try these things and let me know, and post the tractor's model numbers off of the tag under the seat.
