Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cant find the points on a briggs and stratton 3.5 push mower please help!, engine dies

I have taken the flywheel off but can't find the points to see if they need to clean because when I start the mower it will idle rough for a min. then starts to lose power.I also changed the air filter and the plug don't know what else to do Please help. The model numb. is  90702-3058-01-87121722. Thx.

Your engine doesn't have points as far as I know.

I think you're probably in need of a complete service which would include removing the head and cleaning the carbon from the head and piston.  I suspect you also have carburetor trouble that is contributing to the problem.  Part of a complete service for this engine would include rebuiolding and possibly replacing the carburetor.  When rebuilding the carburetor, you need to soak it in a carb vat, spray cleaner probably isn't going to do enough.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks, PK.
