Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): no fuel, john deer, l 120

my brother in law has a john deer riding lawn mower model L 120  he can not keep it running on gas  . he said it is getting gas to the carb but won,t run . but it well stay running with carb cleaner what should he check for    thank you

It sounds like the carburetor needs a good reuilding or replacement.  If this has a Kohler or Briggs engine around 17hp, it's usually better to go ahead and replace the carburetor as most of these engines have carbs that are not very good to start with.

The main nozzle may just be clogged up, but usually the air circuits are clogged up and cleaning is only about 50% effective.
