Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 4.5hp lawn mower engine, throttle plate, actual control
QuestionFirst mow this year and it finally had its first problem after 3 years of service. I think my governor has failed. The mower will start fine and run normal, as soon as the engine is loaded(cut some grass) it dies. I completely removed the carb and cleaned all ports thoroughly, removed the air filter also. The engine still dies when trying to cut. I can increase engine rpm by moving the throttle plate manually so the carb and fuel delivery seem to be operating properly. I have removed the linkage from the throttle plate that runs to the rod coming out of the top side(same side the flywheel mounts to)of the engine. I am not sure where the actual control for moving the throttle plate is located after this point. Do I have to remove the flywheel and open the engine to further diagnose what is going on? Any info on how this engine increases the throttle position and what else I should look at would be great. Thanks
AnswerHello Robert, sorry about the delay. It is your governor, however get yourself a manual. When taking the parts off the machine keep the parts oranganized, so when you put the parts back together one will not get frustrated. I wish I could be there to help!
