Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): compression release, compression release, cam lobe

briggs 28N707. does it have compression release? 15.5 hp vertical. having kick back problem when starting. adjusted valves, but didn`t help. thanks    Bob

Can you send me the engine type number, xxxx xx.  Almost all have a compression release on the exhaust cam lobe.

What did you set the valves at?

Have you checked the flywheel key.  It is rare to shear a key on the larger engines but it happens every now and then.

Send me the type number and check the flywheel key.
