Have a Scag 36 " mower with a Kawasaki  FB 460V engine-starts runs for about 20 seconds-sputters and shuts down. I notice gas in carburetor is contaminated with engine oil, while it runs for the 20 sec. it is blowing a white smoke and oil. Is the Engine shot??

Hi Kevin, most likely the rings are shot allowing oil to flow through the valve breather into the carb. I would say the compression is low and engine needs to be rebuilt.  However it could be a bad valve breather.  It is hard to say without seeing the engine personally.
