Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Z225 Starts then quits, carburetor

My Z225 John deere starts then quits within about 5 seconds. replaced plug, replaced fuel pump. No change. Ran fine end of summer.

It sounds as if you have a cvarburetor that's in need of a good cleaning.  The best way to do this is to either strip it down and soak it for an hour or more in a can of carburetor cleaner or have it cleaned ultra-sonically.  Then reassemble with a new carb kit.  As gas evaporates it leaves behind wax which hardens, clogging everything up.
