QuestionI have a John Deere 318 with power steering.
The power steering works
But steering wheel has excessive play
How can I fix this
AnswerHello Bob:
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 318 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. *You can Drag the View Windows for Better Viewing.*
>>Have you Checked the Tie Rod Ends (#1 & #5) and the Drag Link (#3 Called a Stud in the Wheels, Non Powered Axles and Spindle Sub File) to Make Sure these are Not Worn and Require Replacing?
>>Have you Checked the Small Steering Arm (#8) and made Sure it is Tight and Not Slipping on the Left Hand Spindle?
If All these Components are Good and have No Play and are Not Slipping, then the Power Steering Control Valve (Power Steering Control Valve and Steering Wheel Sub File in the Steering and Brakes File) May Require Rebuilding or Replacing.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
Good Luck
