QuestionHello, I have a craftsman riding mower with a B&S 21.5 hp intek I/C platinum engine. I am having problems getting it running after its 6 month slumber. It turns over well but will only run when I fill the line from the carb with gas, then dies when that runs out. I replaced the fuel filter. The small (approx. 1 1/2 long)hose that goes to the valve cover has a small hole which I wrapped with tape as a temporary fix (which didn't help). It had a similar problem 2 years ago Which i remedied by filling the line between the fuel pump and carb with gas. After that it ran fine. Do I need a new fuel pump? What is the short hose coming from the valve cover called? Where can I get these parts? Thank you for any help you can provide,
AnswerHello Jeremy,
You will find parts for your machine by contacting Briggs & Stratton with the engine model and serial no.
Any lines that you find with holes should be replaced with new lines.
Check:
> If your fuel cap vent is clogged. If it is replace it.
> If your carburetor is dirty or fouled up with sediment.
> If your carb. is properly adjusted to specifications.
> Check that governor is not sticking or binding
- if it is improperly set to RPM.
> Check carb linkage shafts or shutters sticking or binding.
> Check if Spark are incorrect or intermittent spark or plugs fouled.
These are some basic recommended checks to start off.
Let me know how it goes,
I hope that this info helps,
Howard
Ps. you can check the B & S website for more info.
