Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): set timing on honda 5.5 hp, spec numbers, crankcase

my log splitter sprang a gasket leak, I thought I could just replace the gasket on the crankcase cover. OOPS I took off the cover and now do not know how to line up the gears right for the timing. Can you give me a hint please?
