Hello George:

Depending on the Engine Model, this can and Usually Happens if/when Carbon has Built up on the Piston Top. The Carbon is Hot Enough Due to Regular Engine Operation to Cause the Gas to Continue to Ignite and this Creates what is Called "Engine Run On". A Small Engine is Shut Off by the Coil being Grounded and this Stops the Coil from Firing the Plug. The Plug Firing is Not Required if Carbon is on Top of the Piston. Also the Engine Brake May Require Replacing or Adjusting. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit or the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Thanks.
