Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Vintage Sears Generator, watt generator, unleaded fuel
QuestionHi Tom, I just inherited a Sears 2000 watt generator model # 580.5742-1. Blue in color/pull start. Pre Craftsman? It runs, & works. Is it a 2 or 4 stroke? Do I need to add oil to the gas (I didn't)? I believe it may have been made before unleaded fuel, so can I use unleaded or need to add an additive. Thanks, Ken.
AnswerI wouldn't think it is a 2stroke (one you mix fuel & oil)...Check and see if there is a place to add oil separately. I imagine it is a 4 stroke (with separate fuel & oil compartments). I checked on the Sears site, but it does not list the engine used. It you can find me a engine name off the engine or a engine model number I could be certain. You'll be fine using the unleaded fuel, the lead was added to increase octane by a little bit, you'll be just fine with regular unleaded. Most 2 strokes always have a fuel to oil ratio imprinted on the fuel cap too........Tom
