QuestionQUESTION: I have a 32 year old Allis 710 with a K241S engine. This spring I was mowing and the tractor lost all spark. I replaced the points, plug, condenser and the starter solenoid as it had been giving me problems. Still no spark. I checked the coil and it was bad so I replaced it. Everything ran again but 2 months later that coil went out. As it was under warranty, it was again replaced. It has now gone out again. What could be causing the coil to go out and how can I check the system to make sure everything else is ok?
ANSWER: Hello Jeff:
Place a Ballast Resister in the Power Line to the Coil. The Ballast Resister Reduces the Coil Voltage to 8 or 6 Volts. This is How I Corrected this Problem on Other Kohler Engines with the Same Problem. What is the Charging Voltage of this Unit? You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Now Select the Thumbnail of the Engine Catalog you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please.
