Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): GAS LEAKING INTO CRANKCASE ON TROY BILT WITH 17.5 BRIGGS &STRATTON ENGINE, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton
QuestionGAS LEAKING INTO CRANKCASE. I TOOK THE CARB OFF THE FIRST TIME PULLED THE NEEDLE OUT.I SPRAYED WITH CARD CLEANER AND COMPRESSED AIR. PUT BACK TOGETHER CHANGED OIL WORKED FINE THAT TIME . IT SAT FOR ONE WEEK AND GAS LEAKED BACK IN OIL AGAIN. WHAT DO YOU THINK MIGHT BE WRONG WITH IT?
AnswerA bad inlet needle and/or seat. If the needle has a rubber tip, actually viton material, it is defective and you should replace it. If the needle is all metal, then there is a viton seat that needs replacing.
If you have a brass float, check to make sure it does not have a hole in it. Briggs floats are very reliable and do not tend to leak like Tecumseh floats.
Replace the needle or seat and this should solve the leak.
