Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh, ac volts, northern tools
QuestionYears ago I bought a stock 10 hp tecumseh (Model TUXL220-157202C) Serial 30630 from Northern Tools. I am now going to use the engine. There are two wires (green and red-from charging system) that come from the area of alternator(?). They are together and there is a plug to plug other wires into but I do not have wiring diagram to see where they are supposed to go. I assume that the red one needs to go to the battery to charge it?? I tried to test them with the voltmeter to see.The green one at the 20 DC setting on voltmeter read 1.6 The red one red .8
when I touched the positive to the wire and to a metal ground. The engine was running fast. What are these wires for and what do I do to make sure the battery
stays charged.
Thanks
David
AnswerHello David:
Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf . For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers. Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
Good Luck
