Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stack pulley, diameter shaft, size belts
QuestionI am trying to find a stack pulley that will fit on a 1 1/8" drive shaft of my lawn mower engine. The engine is a B&S ELS725 26HP twin cylinder. I am replacing my engine on my 6216 Simplicity tractor which has a 1" diameter shaft and therefore can not use the stack pulley on the old engine. The mounting bolts line up fine. The top pulley is 3" diameter and takes a 5/8" V-belt and the bottom pulley is 4 5/8" diameter and takes a 1/2" V-belt. The total length of the stack pulley is 7 1/4". Anything fairly close should work since I could probably use different size belts if needed. The drive shaft on the new engine has a key slot. Thanks, MR
AnswerIt may be eaiser to ask a local machine shop to turn down the shaft. I looked in several aftermarket catelogs and only found one pulley with 1 1/8" ID, Noma 48848. All the other stack pulleys I found were 1" ID.
A machine shop may even be able to take the old pulley, cut off the pulleys and install a new tube to fit your crank.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
