Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman rider brakes, splined shaft, bearing seperator
QuestionDo I need a special puller to remove the disc so I can replace the pad on the back side? The disc is mounted on a spline that is very rusty.
all pointers are welcome. Thanks.
AnswerNormally you should not need a special pulley but discs are prone to seizing to the splined shaft due to rust.
Do you have a bearing seperator puller? Have tried PB Blaster or other pentrating oil to see if it will free the disc? Soak with pentrating oil and use a hammer and flat punch gently tapping around the inner part of the disc to see if you can free it.
Do not use a torch to heat the disc as there is an oring seal inside the trans case that will melt.
