Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan pro Lawn mower 42 deck, correct voltage, starter motor
QuestionWon't start, has a new battery, fresh gas, was newly tuned up 3 months ago, it won't turn over, sounds like it is going to start too then goes dead. any suggestions on where I should start short of taking it back to the dealer?
thank you
AnswerMeasure the voltage in the battery, you have to have 12.6 V DC to start your engine. If you have the correct voltage in the solenoid clicks when you turn the key see if there is 12 V going to the starter motor. Be sure to check your grounds when could be loose causing the same issue. If you do not have 12 V going to the starter motor then somewhere along the circuit voltage is being used. Go to each switch and measure 12 V on both sides meaning that the voltage has to go through switch when you try to start the engine. You could do this with a continuity meter also.
If this is not the electrical problem in the battery is being drained because the engine will not start you could have a plug fuel system. You would have to install a carburetor kit and fuel filter if this was the case. I would for sure ask the dealer what they did and describe them your current issue. I hope the information has helped if not please contact us.
