Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): GT5000 w/ Kohler 25hpo [problem, craftsman gt5000, starter fluid
QuestionHello,
I have a Craftsman GT5000 with a 25hp Kohler v twin engine. It's a 2002 Model. I have a problem that I believe is carburetor related. It's been sitting for about a year, and now it won't run. It start and run for a second or two if I spray starting fluid on the air filter. I removed the fuel line from the carb, turned the engine over with the starter, got a good stream of fuel. What do you think I should do next?
Thanks,
Doug
AnswerDid you flush out all the old fuel? If it sat with fuel in it for a year the carburetor will be gummed up.
Flush the old fuel, refill with fresh and keep the engine running for a couple of minutes with starter fluid.
The carb may clean itself out. If it dies when you stop spraying starting fluid you will have to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with compressed air from an air compressor and carburetor cleaner.
