Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 318 engine wont start, john deere 318 garden tractor, john deere 318
QuestionMy John Deere 318 Garden tractor has an Onan 2-cylinder 18 horse engine model # B43G. I put in a new timing gear, new camshaft gear, new oil pump, new ignition coil, spark plugs, and plug wires. I used an Onan repair manual, so the repairs were made to manual specifications. But it won’t start. There is gas coming into the engine; there’s 100# compression per cylinder. Good spark to the plugs. The engine turns over fine and there’s good vacuum at the carburetor. But it doesn’t start. Any suggestions?
AnswerHello Earle:
If the Cylinder was Honed Properly and the Rings Placed on the Piston in the Correct Manner, then I Suggest you Try a Small Amount of Starter Fluid while the Engine is Being Cranked Over. If this Doesn't Assist Starting the Engine, then Pour a Small Amount (approx 1oz) of Engine Oil Into the Spark Plug Holes and Replace the Plugs. Now Try to Start the Engine What Happens? Thanks. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
Good Luck
