Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No Spark on Engine, briggs stratton quantum, briggs stratton

I have a Briggs & Stratton Quantum XM 4.5 HP engine with no spark, I have removed the recoil and magneto/coil assembly and cleaned the gap and adjusted to 0.006" and still have no spark. How can I test the magneto/coil assembly or do i need to remove the flywheel and test components below?

How old is the engine?  Dis-connect the small wire on the under side of the coil and check for spark.  If you have spark the coil is fine.  If no spark, odds are 99.99% the coil is bad.

Let me know the age of the engine before buying a new coil.  The first two digits of the code number is the year the engine was built.
