Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): v-belt loose after replacement, customer service dept, proper model
QuestionI have an MTD Model 760-770 Lawn Mower with a 42" deck. I have replaced the v-belt with the proper model # 754-04060B. I had purchased it from Home Depot where I purchased the lawn mower 4 months ago.
After replacement of the belt the belt is too loose to turn around pulleys. I have followed the directions in the manual, and even removed the deck to get a better position to work on it. I cannot find how the belt should be tensioned so that it will operate properly. It has nothing in the manual stated about a loose v-belt. Can you help me please? Thank You.
AnswerI knoww the guys at MTD . You shoul contact them because it is under warranty. MTD is in Cleveland, OH and you want to talk to the customer service dept. Mike is the manager.
Just a couple things to check. Are the idler pullies flat or V shaped? If they are flat, they on the outside the belt, and if V-shaped along the inside of the belt. You will normally see in the linkage where a brake or clutch would operate if tightened.
