Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Powering a PTO clutch, recoil starter, fly wheel
QuestionI have an older Toro Model 30111 commercial grade walk behind mower with a 44" deck and a Toro 54-3200 PTO clutch that activates the mowing deck. The 11 HP B&S engine that came on the mower finally ran its course and I have replaced it with a Kohler CV12.5T. (Spec # 1241, Serial # 2522721754). I have the engine installed and running fine. In trying to connect the PTO clutch, I don't see any power leads from the engine that I can use to supply power to the PTO clutch. I have removed the cowling over the fly wheel in hopes of finding a source of power, but did not see anything. Because this is a recoil starter (and does not otherwise have the internal wiring to activate the starter), how do I go about powering the PTO clutch? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
AnswerThe PTO switch is powered from the ignition switch. But most times it goes to a safety switch first, so you can't on some models, cut in reverse. You'll have to find a wire that gets hot when the ignition is turned on, and stays on till it is shut off.......Tom
