I just bought a John Deere riding lawn mower but dont know what year it is, is there a way to find this, I have been told it is in the serial number, but not sure where to look. Hope you can help. Thank you

Model and serial number on a John Deere should be located under the seat either on the bottom or the seat or under it on a label on the frame.......Tom

No, the model number is a separate number from the serial number, it is not a portion of the serial number.......Tom
