Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): replace pull string on a lawn mower, starter rope, tie a knot

The pull string on my craftsman mower broke and i do not know how to replace it my model # is 917.388851

Answer
Remove the starter.  Untie the knot in the rope and pull our. Purchase new rope of correct length. Tie a knot in the end of the rope as it was on the one you took off. Pre-wind the starter rope spring 2 to 3 turns.  Thread the rope through the pulley and out through the starter housing.  Tie slip knot 3 or 4     ' up the rope. Release the spring. thread through rope guides if you have any and tie put the handle back on.  Install the housing to the engine.
