Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Self-propelled Mower Belt, question pool, model numbers

I have an older mower that I use on a fairly rough property.  The belt slips off occasionally and I have been lucky to coax it back on with a screwdriver and a lot of sweat.  I'm sure there's an easier way.  Can you give me some instructions?  Please keep in mind that you are working with the mechanically challenged.  Thanks.
