Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Rectifier, ac to dc, stator

Jump started w/o removing fuse, fried rectifier.  Have been told unavailable.  Any suggestions. 1973 Sears Compact 8E, 8hp Briggs Mod 190407  type 0725-01  Code 7203151

What won't it do?  Turn over or start?  I thought that old of a tractor wold have a generator.  If so it should be rebuildable at an electric motor shop.  Dosen't it still have points and condensor?  A rectifier converts AC to DC to charge the battery light the lights and provide ignition.  it is a series of diodes allowing current to run one way but not the other.  If you have a wiring diagram for the tractor you should be able to see what I am talking about.  Do you have a stator under the flywheel?  A stator is a series of coils of wire.  They are usually stationary and there is a series of magnets in the underside of the flywheel.  This is confusing. please let me know what you find.
