where does one put the fluid in differential in a dtl 2000 26 hp rider lawn and garden mower tractor

What model of tractor do you have?  Most MTD, Murray and other inexpensive mowers purchaced from Sears, Wal-Mart, Home Depot or Lowes are filled from the factory and are not intended to be re-filled.  These units are sealed/maintenance free.

Higher quality hydros have a seperate tank for re-filling.  Let me know what tractor you have along with the model number.
