Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower shaft threads, shaft diameter, dial indicator

On a three and one-half hp. Tecumseh mower, I have damaged the threads to the shaft that holds the flywheel. Is there a simple way to get the nut back on? Thanks

Re-cut the threads with a die.  I used to have a very die for recutting the threads on those cranks but can remember the exact size.  Use a dial indicator to measure the shaft diameter.  I believe the size is close to 1/2 inch or 5/8 national fine thread.  Measue the shaft diameter with the dial indicator and purchase a fine thread die based on the shaft diameter.
