Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): electronic ignition, old briggs, briggs stratton
QuestionHi I read an answer to a question where you said it was cheap and easy to install electronic ignition on an old Briggs & Stratton, without having to pull the flywheel. How does one do this and what do I ask for at the auto store? I have an old, possibly late 60s or 70s apprx 10 hp Briggs snowblower engine I am trying to get going. (It is a Simplicity Snow Away snowblower.) Previous owners repainted it, or I would have more info for you. Thanks Dan
AnswerSee the link below for the Nova kit.

We currently use the Nova brand but I have tried several others and have not had any problems. Basically there is a transistor and a couple of other components inside the modules that replace the points and condenser.
Depending on where your live I would check the auto and small engine part stores in your area to see what they sell. The Briggs electronic ignition kit works well but you have to solder a connection where as the other units you can crip or use wire nuts.
Let me know if this helps.
