Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh engine, digets, hp engine
QuestionQUESTION: I just purchased a "used" Tecumseh engine. The numbers on the engine are "OH14O 160009B SR# 8256E" Can you tell me what HP the engine is and where I might be able to purchase a starter for it?
ANSWER: Hello John:
This is a 14hp Engine. The Starter is Tecumseh Part # 33835. The Sterns Aftermarket Part # is STE435311. This Starter is Avaliable from Outdoor Distributors (1-877-707-2787) for $110.36us Dollars Plus Shipping. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers. Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Starter
QUESTION: I ordered and installed the above starter. It is not the correct part. It is an 11 tooth gear that runs ccw. The bendix kickes it out but it does not engage the flywheel. The ccw is correct for the application. The starter gear is so small that the teeth do not engage the flywheel. I have looked all over on the net for information but can find nothing. Do you think the 2nd set of digets has a clue ? could the "16009B" designate a certain model of the 14 hp engine ? Any help would be appreciated.
AnswerHi John:
The Second Set of Numbers are a Part of the PArt Number for Tecumseh Engines. It has to be Used to Get the Correct Parts. The Part Numbers I Sent you are for the Tecumseh Model OH140-160009B Engine. I rechecke the Engine Model and the Starter Part Numbers and they were Correct. I ill Phone my Contact at Tecumseh on Monday and Inquire about a Modification to the Starter Gear or Starter and Check the Part Number at the Same Time. I will Send you a Follow Up Answer on Monday 11/19/07. You can View a Breakdown at the Addy I Provided Earlier. Thanks.
