Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): replacing battery acid, battery tenders, battery acid

can a person keep a battery forever ( if not cracked) by draining fluids letting dry and then replacing acid and water

I have never tried but based on my level of knowledge the answer is no.  The plates inside the battery that form the cells will corrode/oxidize over time causing the battery to fail.

I have had a lot of success with Battery Tenders.  These devices seem to preserve and extend battery life.

Are there any battery experts on the net?
