Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Hydrostatic transaxle, hydrostatic transaxle, yard tractor

I know that this has been asked before but I am in need of your help. I have a craftsman yard tractor model #917.251572  with a transaxle part #218-3010 that will not go into gear. Sears said that I just needed to by a new one but at $1300 dollars that wont happen. what are my options. one might be to try and find a used one. Help.
