Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): crank vent breather, blown head gasket, rubber flap
QuestionI have a craftsman lawnmower. I had some recent problems with oil leaking out of the crank vent breather rubber flap. I removed the flap and noticed that it was full of oil. I removed and cleaned it and put it back together. My question is why did it fill with oil in the first place and will it happen again.
AnswerHello Darren:
Has or is the Crankcase Over Filled with Oil? Does the Oil have a Gas Smell? The Breather Not Operating Properly and Sticking or the Crankcase was Over Filled (either by the Operator or Contaminated with Gas cause by a Bad Carburetor Needle Valve) are the Most Common Causes for this Problem. A Blown Head Gasket, Damaged Flywheel Key or a Broken Ring are Some Other Causes for this Problem. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine or Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Depending on the Answers to my Questions will Tell me if the Problem will Re-Occur. Hope this Helps. I am Here if you Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
