Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Crafsman lawn tractor, carburetor jets, gas tanks
QuestionJohn, I have a sears lawn tractor model 917.217050 15.5 kohler that will run for about 10 minutes and then just quits, almost like someone shuts it off. If you let it sit for a couple of hours it will then start. I have checked all electrical connections, replaced the 3 relays and put on a new solenoid. Any suggestions ?
AnswerHello Geoffery:
When the Engine Quits is there Fire at the Plug? Check the Gas Tanks Cap and Ensure it is Venting Properly. Check the Fuel Pump when the Engine Quits. Is it Pumping Gas? Usually the Problem you Described is caused by Either the Coil Going Bad (Not firing the Plug when Coil Heats Up) or the Fuel Pump Heats up and Quits Pumping Gas or the Tank Builds a Vacuum and Does Not Allow the Fuel Pump to Pull Gas from the Tank. Also if the Carburetor has a Fuel Shut Off Valve in the Carburetor Bowl, it May be Heating Up and Shutting Off the Gas Flow to the Carburetor Jets. All the Above will Occur within 15 to 30 Minutes After Starting and Operating the Engine. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
Good Luck
